Excerpt:

Family therapy originated in child psychiatry, drew important technical skills from play therapy, group therapy, and psychodrama, with more recent additions from the encounter and training group fields. On the theoretical side it has drawn from psychoanalytic theory, from anthropological and sociological studies and from cybernetics, general systems theory, linguistics and kinesics. This survey focuses on psychiatric disorder: as an exogenous stress on the family, and as caused by pathogenic relationships in the family. (66 pp.)
