Sadism and masochism were introduced as syndromes into the psychiatric literature by Krafft-Ebing in 1882 in his now classic work, Psychopathia Sexualis. This volume contains the an extensive collection of illustrative clinical cases. The author derived some of his data from his consultation practice, some from the reports of physicians, but most were obtained from prostitutes who had first-hand experience with sadomasochistic clients.
