When impasses present a stalemate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, the use of certain behavior therapy techniques may be of help. What makes this suggestion startling and unusual is that psychoanalytic theory and behavioristic theory appear to have very different views about the nature or source of symptoms and psychological difficulties.
