Empathy is undoubtedly a cornerstone of psychotherapy; whether it is con­sidered an entree into the patient’s world, a necessary dimension of a healing relationship, or a final goal of the therapeutic process. However, when an empathic approach becomes a dogma or an unattainable therapeutic ideal, we fail our patients. (20 pp.)
