The treatment of choice in hysterical disorders is psychoanalytic intervention. Any modification of such a procedure by psychotherapists should be advisedly a therapy of an uncovering and reconstructive nature. Other therapies, whether basically drug oriented, hypnotic, behavioral or reconditioning, are at best palliative and offer only a temporary resolution of the more superficial manifestations of the hysterical problem.
